Unfortunately, too little known, the work of heritage restoration involves a complex, team effort, carried out by people used to working in anonymity, so that the general public of today, but also of the future, can experience the joy of knowing the values of the historical past.

Each restoration salon is an extraordinary opportunity to reveal the osmosis between the science and art of restoration.

The science of restoration starts from the research of the known past of the heritage piece, contributing in a relevant way to the discovery of new data and aspects related to it, while giving it the chance of its future existence.

The art of restoration, on the other hand, is an experience above space and time, in which the restorer empathises with the artist or craftsman of the restored objects, which encode in their essence different realities, from that of the workshop in which they were produced, to that of the history they have gone through and that of the present to which the exhibition is addressed to.

A  tradition at the Brukenthal National Museum nowadays, the exhibition organised by the Museum's restorers showcases spectacular pieces restored from the Brukenthal National Museum's heritage in the following media: oil paintings, graphics, books, leather, wood, polychrome wood, textiles, ceramics, metal and stone. Next to each piece there will be placed a colour print with photographs of the pieces before restoration, stages during restoration, after restoration, operations performed by the restorer on each piece and the name of the restorer. This will help the general public to learn the "secrets" behind the restoration work.
