This year, in April, the Brukenthal National Museum in Sibiu, through the Natural History Museum, organized, for the first time, a mycological exhibition, marking the resumption of fungal research within the institution after a period of approximately 140 years. The exhibition brought to the public’s attention species characteristic of the spring season in Romania, with particular focus on morels (genus Morchella). The event also served as a tribute to one of the institution’s founders, botanist Michael Fuss (1814-1883), an important figure in the development of botanical and mycological research in Transylvania and one of the pioneers of fungal studies in the region.

From October 2 to 31, the Natural History Museum in Sibiu will host a new temporary exhibition dedicated to the fungal diversity characteristic of the autumn season. The exhibition is organized by Mr. Florin Bustan, a mycology enthusiast involved in educational activities and in promoting natural heritage through the “Lucky Mushrooms” (Ciuperci Norocoase) project. The initiative aims to familiarize the public with the diversity of fungal species in Romania, as well as to encourage interest in observing, learning about, and protecting fungal biodiversity.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see hundreds of fungal specimens presented in an educational and documentary context, highlighting the morphological and ecological diversity of this group of organisms and their role in natural ecosystems.

An important component of the exhibition program is dedicated to young visitors. Children will be able to take part in educational activities focused on learning about fungi, coordinated by Mr. Florin Bustan. The exhibition can be visited at the Natural History Museum, located at 1 Cetății Street, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., starting October 2.
