Brukenthal National Museum Sibiu has the honour to invite you on Friday, February 3rd, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. to the opening of the exhibition Out of our head project of the artists Elena Ilash and Caius Rotaru. The exhibition will be opened at the headquarters of the Contemporary Art Museum located on Tribunei street no. 6 and can be visited until March 26th, from Wednesday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Elena Ilash proposes to the art lovers of Sibiu a sculpture exhibition, conceived and realized together with the late sculptor Caius Rotaru. Speaking about the project, Elena explains: "Besides friendship, we were united by the need to experience the figurative, the artistic image that easily finds its explanation and correspondent in the surrounding world. That's why I chose the expressive force of the portrait, more precisely, the emotion that the idealized or unveiled beauty of a "gallery" of exclusively female portraits induces”.
Both the plastic solutions, the materials, the technique: mixed media (glass, resin, painted bronze), as well as the way in which these portraits were thought out, extract the works from the comfort zone of the "classical portrait". Integrating into the plastic process baroque, sometimes grotesque elements, deformations, contemporary visual deconstruction techniques, the character - faces describe an eclectic world: typological, temporal and stylistic.
So, we hope you will accept our invitation to step together outside our thoughts – Out of our heads – towards tangible emotions modelled, moulded and sculpted by Elena Ilash and Caius Rotaru!
